The Thin Crust of Web Page Design

The idea of conceptualizing your very own web page design might seem like a daunting proposition. There are a lot of factors that need to be considered in order to ultimately create an effective web page design. Although the overall appearance of the page is the first thing that comes to mind when talking about design, never make the mistake of forgetting to make sure that the web page actually works. Design is not just what it looks like; design is also how it works. In this article, I will discuss some of the major factors that you need to consider when conceptualizing the design of your webpage.

The first major factor is usability. Usability is how easily site visitors can get acquainted with functions of the web page. You must not put too much mental workload for the user.  The web page should be obvious and self-explanatory. User-centric design has become a standard approach for successful web design. In this method, you as the developer must put yourself in the visitor’s shoes and start viewing your design based on the visitor’s perspective. That way, you will be able to determine the best options in order to make the page easy to use. After all, if the visitors can’t use that feature, it might as well not exist.

Another factor is to focus the visitor’s attention where you want it to. There are a lot of ways in order to do this. One way is to manipulate some of the content’s font. You can opt to use larger and more eye-catching font size to emphasize the major points of your site. You can also use different colors for the major points to stand out or you can use graphical materials like pictures in order to get the visitor’s attention. Effective writing is also another factor to consider. When putting contents to your web page, make sure that the writings sound professional and most importantly, has correct grammar. Visitors tend to be very suspicious and untrusting of sites overflowing with grammatical errors. It lessens the impression that the visitors have about your site.

One more important factor that gets visitors worked up is the load time. Everybody hates web pages that take ages to load. Today’s trend is not about putting fireworks and spaceships into your webpage but it is more about speed and performance. You cannot afford to squander the visitor’s patience because once that happens, they will simply close your page and look for another web page with faster loading time. This creates a bad reputation for your site. And the most obvious of all factors mentioned is simplicity. This is the most basic thing you should achieve for your web page design.Experiment with different combinations of fonts and colors. Arrange your content in a way that is not too heavy to the eyes and most of all, don’t be afraid of the white space. White spaces are actually helpful in lessening the eye strain of the visitor.

Always remember, a combination of well-design web pages is the key to creating a very successful website.
